PREP/CCD registration for 2009-10 school year:
Students entering 1st grade in public and non-Catholic
private schools should also register now for level 1 PREP. Children must be age 6 by September 1st to enter grade one. At
Holy Martyrs, First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion are celebrated in level three. It is the policy of the Archdiocese
of Philadelphia that children entering a sacrament program year must have attended a formal religious education program
for 2 consecutive years prior to entering the sacrament program. Holy Martyrs' children entering the Confirmation Program
in 6th grade must have attended a formal religious education program for grades 4 and 5 in order to be received
into level 6. Students who had no formal religious education who are above the level three First Sacraments year, attend PREP
for two consecutive years prior to entering into a sacramental preparation year. Sacramental catechesis is then arranged through
the RCIA Program.
Policy on Class Offerings:
Class scheduling is dependent on the number of volunteer catechists. Students are assigned a class/teacher on
a first serve bases. Class sizes are limited to 12 students per classroom. When circumstances are such that enough catechists
cannot be attained for a particular grade, it may be necessary to re-arrange the class times and dates and set up alternate
time/date for class meetings. If the shortage is on Sunday, then 3rd grade (the older grade) may need to move to
Tuesday afternoon. If the catechist shortage is on Tuesday evening, 4th grade (the younger grade) may be called
upon to switch to Tuesday afternoon. If a larger class is formed due to lack of enough volunteers, it may be necessary to
have parents rotate turns and assist in certain classrooms weekly to have adequate adult supervision.
